PXS8 Locks Up After Dial Command | Telit Cinterion IoT Developer Community

Hello,
I am using a Cinterion PXS8 on a CDMA network. Occasionally, the AT command interface will lock up or freeze after I execute a dial command ( AT+CDVXXXXXXXXXX; ). I don't receive the OK response, and I am unable to execute any more commands until I cycle power. It doesn't appear to be directly tied to poor connectivity.
I assume this is a firmware bug. Has anyone else experienced this?
I am using firmware revision 03.320.
Thanks,
Christopher
Hello,
Could you write some more about the problem and paste some AT commands log? Can you check the detailed information about the firmware version with ATI1 command?
What SIM providers are you using? Is it easy to reproduce this issue - how frequently does it happen to you? What's the application doing?
Thanks and best regards,
Bartłomiej
Hello Bartłomiej,
Thank you for your reply. Here is the output of the ATI1 command:
ATI1
Cinterion
PXS8
REVISION 03.320
A-REVISION 01.000.15
OK
The PXS8 module is mounted on the AH6 DSB75 Adapter Board, which is mounted on the DSB-Mini. I am on the Sprint network.
I am communicating with the module on the Application Interface using picocom. The issue does not happen consistently; usually, the AT+CDV command works fine. Everything seemed to be working fine for about a week. Then, I was able to lock up the module four ***** in one day.
Here is a screenshot of one instance of the module freezing; the OK command is not received after the dial command is executed. Even if I start a new session, I cannot execute any additional AT commands until I remove and reapply power.
As indicated in the screenshot, there may be some correlation with this issue and the received signal strength; this seems to be when the issue often happens. (To try to duplicate the issue, I partly unscrewed the antenna so that the signal strength is poor.) However, this does not always happen with a poor signal, and it has happened when the module should have had a better signal. And when there is no signal, the command still usually returns the OK status (see below).
Thank you again for your help.
Christopher
Hello,
It looks like you have the latest public firmware.
I haven't seen any similar customer reports so far.
I think that you could test this also on the modem interface as it is more preferable for establishing calls.
Please also try to remove antenna or SIM card just for test when this happens and check if the module is still hanging.
Best regards,
Bartłomiej
Hi Bartłomiej,
Thank you for your suggestions.
I tried removing and reinserting the SIM card, but that did not help. I changed the antenna as well with the same result.
I will try using the Modem interface to start the call as you suggested. I am also going to try changing the interface allocation with AT^SDPORT.
It's strange that sometimes the issue is very hard to repeat, and sometimes it can be repeated more easily.
Thanks,
Christopher
Hi Bartłomiej,
I was able to duplicate the problem from the Modem interface. So unfortunately, that did not fix the issue.
Thanks,
Christopher
I tried using a different PXS8 module, and it had the same problem as the first one.
Thanks,
Christopher
Hi Christopher,
I think that this ***** some investigation. I'm not located in US so I can't check it. Theoretically such thing should of course not happen. I have asked my colleagues in US to try but I don't have any news so far and I can't promis that it will be any helpful. Anyway I think that, if you experience such problems, you should report it to your local Gemalto office or distributor. When it is reported to Gemalto support it will be forwarded to US team and they will be able to test it.
Regards,
Bartłomiej
Thanks for all your help, Bartłomiej. I appreciate you looking into it.
