PDS8 Restarting with emerg_off (IGT tied to GND) vs power cycling | Telit Cinterion IoT Developer Community

Dear all,
I would like to ask if there is a difference between a complete power cycle vs an emerg_off with IGT connected to ground? The IGT connect to ground makes the module automatically restarts.
The reason is that our external watchdog is now connected the emerg_off. The watchdog is the last fail-safe to get the modem up and running if it stops reacting to the AT commands. I would like to know if this is sufficient as fail-safe?
Thanks in advance
Bob
Hello,
In case of normal shutdown with SMSO module has opportunity to deregister from the network, finish all applications etc. EMERG_OFF is intended for emergency cases and when it is not possible to communicate with the module. So it appropriate for watchdog. First AT^SMSO should be attempted in case of normal shutdown.

Thank you for this response and understood that it is the last resort.
But is the EMERG_OFF any different from a power cycle?
Could you please precise what exactly you mean here by power cycle?
Removing power supply from the PDS8 and after a few moments put it back on, could also be seen as Cold boot.
Hello,
The recommended way to switch off the module is to use software controlled shutdown or reset first (AT^SMSO, AT+CFUN=1,1) and in case of emergency or if normal procedure does not work, module does not reply etc. the emergency off. Removing power supply when the module is not switched off is not recommended as there is a risk of damaging the module. For example when the module is doing a write operation on flash and the power is lost there is some risk of data ********** and then it can not be functioning correctly.
