Maximum number of concurrently running midlets on EHS5 / EHS6 | Telit Cinterion IoT Developer Community

Hi All,
I've been trying to run a number of midlets concurrently on the EHS6 board. I notice that after there are 6 user midlets running (next to the 1 of the system) my other midlets do not get started anymore. They can be installed and show up in the list of installed midlets but when I try to run them they do not seem to start (although AT^SJAM=1 returns OK).
Is there a maximum on the number of midlets that can be running concurrently? Is this maximum adjustable (i.e. via configuration)?

Hello,
what do your MIDlets do? Are they accessing some hardware devices? Is 7th MIDlet listed on AT^SJAM=5? Are you sending some data to stdout on MIDlet startup? Are they visible? Are you observing stdout? Are some exceptions thrown?

My midlets currently only print out a line of text (containing their unique ID) and then create a thread that just sleeps (the startApp() function returns after creating the thread).
It seems by the way that i miscounted, i'm able to run 7 midlets and then the 8th fails to start.
The output of the midlets is as follows:

MIDlet:HelloWorld.HelloWorld abnormal exit
(The first 7 lines are the texts that I output, the 8th shows an exception when starting).

So "HelloWorld8.jar" does not seem to get started and does not appear in the list of running midlets.

By the way, I just read in the java userguide the following section (Paragraph 6.3):
The maximum number of MIDlets running simultaneously is eight while in normal operation and
seven while doing on-device debugging. When the maximum number of MIDlets is reached a
further MIDlet will still start (“startApp” method is called) but it will then terminate immediately
with an error message on System.out.
See it seems that what I'm seeing is normal behavior. What is was wondering is, given the abundance of resources of the module, is it possible to increase this limit of 8?

Hello,
yes, this is standard behaviour - known and documented. There is no way to change this limit. Are you sure you need to run so many MIDlets? Java supports multitasking, you can easily perform various operations in separate tasks started from one MIDlet.
