Hello,
has anybody known errors to cause failure of the PHS8-P?
We already have 250 defective modules. We do not get any information about the error.
Error description: no network connection (to mobile network, umts only)
The modules are in operation between one and three years.
Next week i'll try to look for more information (version of firmware)
Any suggestions?
thanks a lot

Hello,
Are you able to provide more details?
The modules are installed in some devices and any software or firmware was not changed? The devices were working in 3G before and now they can't.
Are the devcies in the same country and equipped with SIM cards from the same operator? For how long are you observing these problems? Maybe it's a temporary problem of a particular MNO or region.
Please check the firmware version with ATI1 command and operator with AT+COPS?.
Best regards,
Bartłomiej
Hello,
now i have more details:
ATI1
Cinterion
PHS8-P
REVISION 02.003
A-REVISION 01.002.00
OK
AT+CGMR
REVISION 02.003
AT^SBV
^SBV: 3947
I measured the Vbat-Voltage (multi-meter) at ~ 3.95V
The modules are installed in devices and the firmware of modules and devices are never changed since ~April 2014. I don't know exactly when the problems began: I think last year, we had about 30-50 modules with these error and this year until today about 250 moduls. Our Customer has about 1000 modules running.
The devices are configured to use only UMTS-Band, not EDGE and not GSM.
I figured 2 major problems (maybe the same?):
First problem: the module tried to/has register to the network vodefone.de, or telekom.de (germany) and then seems to stop working.
2nd problem: the usb-interface from PHS8-P to the cpu disappears. I can read in the kernel-log sometimes: ...USB disconnect ... new high-speed USB device ... idVendor=1e2d, idProduct=0053 ...
after that reconnect, there are 5 ttyUSB ... devices
Our customer are using the SIM cards in the same country an region, we tested with the same cards and other providers too in also the same country, but another local area.
We had disabled for tests the antenna-diversity with AT^SAD=10 , but no other result.
Tomorrow i will use an oscilloscope to check the Vbat-supply, to see if there an drop below 3.3V
Best regards and thanks for you helps
Jens
Hello,
Your current description is slightly different from what you have written before. The module seems to stop working - so probably becomes unresponsive for your CPU - or seems to reset as it disappears and reconnects on USB. So it not necessarily is a problem with a network registration to 3G. Does this problem not happen if you reconfigure the device to use 2G for example? Do you have any logs? You should be able to see there for example when the problem occurs and if the module reboots. How frequently doe this happen? Is it easy to reproduce?
Currently there is a newer firmware revision. But at the moment it looks more like some hardware issue, maybe connected with the power supply as you suspect.

Bartłomiej
Hello,
i think, we have found the main problem. Sometimes our customer has not connected the antenna-pin to an passiv-antenna. In these cases they connected to an pre-amplifier-output of a active GPS-receiver.
I will report in some weeks again.
Regards
Jens
