Hello,
I was wondering if it is possible to disable URC's on some interfaces? I'm developing an application where the RS232 port will be connected to an other device and I do not want that the module sends URC's to that port. Not even on startup. So also no SYSSTART etc. (EHS6)
How can this be accomplished?

Hello,
it depends on your setup. If you wish to use AT commands on the interface, you can disable almost all URCs individually for every feature, but ^SCTM, ^SYSLOADING, ^SYSSTART and ^SHUTDOWN can't be disabled. Please note that the module is ready to operate after ^SYSSTART is present and no AT commands should be called before, so presence of this URC may be very useful.
If you wish to access your external device from a MIDlet, after Java reserves the interface no more URCs will come till the interface is freed, but still before MIDlet starts ^SYSLOADING is printed. To avoid transmitting this URC to your external device you can introduce following starting routine:
1. EHS6 powers up
2. MIDlet starts with autostart routine
3. MIDlet reserves communication port
4. MIDlet starts your device with toggling one of GPIO lines
5. External device opens COM port on remote side (on module's side link is already reserved by Java MIDlet, so buffered URCs will not come)
5. Transmit and receive data.
Please note that if there are any buffered URCs waiting to be displayed, they will pop up on link release. So basically the idea is always to have device enabled when MIDlet is running.
Maybe you could give some more details regarding your setup, so further tips could be more accurate.

The EHS6 will be connected to the RS232 port of an already in-place and running device. So the suggestion of starting the external device by GPIO is not usable in this situation. If the modem starts sending URC's on the serial port the device will respond to that. This is not desired behavior.
Some other terminals with a TC65/EHSx module and, by example, a RS485 port, connected to ASC0/1, do NOT send these URC's. How is this done?

Hello Mark,
maybe you have autobauding set on your TC65 terminal. Please compare following documentation notes:
TC65:
"If autobauding is enabled (AT+IPR=0), URCs generated after restart will be output with 115200 bps until the ME has detected the current bit rate. The URCs "^SYSSTART", "^SYSSTART < text >", however, are not presented at all."
EHS6:
"Autobaud mode (see AT+IPR) requires an "AT" or "at" string be given after restarting the ME. This enables the ME to detect the bit rate set in the TE. After detecting the bit rate the ME will send the "^SYSSTART" URC."
So even if you set autobauding on EHS6, you will get the URC.
There is also following note regarding ^SYSSTART, ^SYSLOADING, +PBREADY and ^SYSINFO in EHS6 documentation:
"They cannot be defined by the user and appear automatically when the conditions described below occur."
I'm afraid this can't be disabled.
