AT+COPS - Operator Name | Telit Cinterion IoT Developer Community

Hello community,
In the cases that two different operators share the same network (same MNC shown in serving cell information), is there a way to differentiate between one operator and another?
I guees the "Operator Name" (alphanumeric format) given by the "AT+COPS" command is associated to the same MCC-MNC showed by the serving cell info, so it won't either work for this case. Am I right?
Thanks.
Hello,
As far as I know the operator name is assigned to the network code. I suppose that COPS will always return the same name for the same MNC.
So the mobile will probably always see one network and operator. You can verify the SIM provider by the IMSI number and read MNC from it. Is it also the same for all operators?
So how do you distinguish these operators?

Bartłomiej
Thanks for answering Bartłomiej,
Yes, SIM IMSI number is fixed (same provider), so it is the same for all operators. It is a roaming scenario in which the provider has agreements with different operators from abroad.
That is what I am trying to achieve, I know that two different operators share one network but just one PLMN is send out for both core networks (a common PLMN ID). Checkings to select one operator or another is being made of NRI (extracted from TMSI, -Temporary Mobile Subscriber Identity-) and the BSC routing table.
What I want to know is if there exists any method to extract the information about the selected core network from the UE itself, as neither the MNC nor the IMSI are suitable to find that out.
Thanks. Best regards,
According to these definitions:
Non-supporting UE: a UE that does not support network sharing in the sense that it ignores the additional broadcast system information that is specific for network sharing for 3GPP UTRAN and GERAN. In other specifications, the term "network sharing non-supporting UE" may be used.
Supporting UE: a UE that supports network sharing in the sense that it is able to select a core network operator as the serving operator within a shared network. In other specifications, the term "network sharing supporting UE" may be used.
Should the PLS8-E be considered as a supporting or non-supporting UE?
Hello,
I'm trying to clarify this. Could you please provide me the ATI1 reply to verify the release and firmware version. There may be differences between the releases.
Best regards,
Bartłomiej
Hello, thanks for support.
ATI1 reply is:
ATI1
Cinterion
PLS8-E
REVISION 02.011
A-REVISION 01.010.13
OK
Best regards,
Raul.
Hello,
It took a while but I finally got the information that all PLS8 moduless should support network sharing.

Bartłomiej
Hello Bartłomiej,
Fine, thank's for support. I have an additional question, 3GPP TS 23.251 (network sharing) documentation says the next about compatibility:
And PLS8 documentation says the next about 3GPP compliance:
So, can we still say that PLS8 module should fully support network sharing, even for 2G networks?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Raul.
Hello,
Based on that comparison the PLS8 module would only support the network sharing for 3G and 4G.
I have also browsed the documents by myself. I'm sorry that my previous answer that I have forwarded to you was a bit inexact. For 2G the operator assignment would only be managed by the network in this case.

Bartłomiej
