Cinterion ELS61T-E2 flashing orange on startup | Telit Cinterion IoT Developer Community

Hi.
I just got this device. I am pretty new at this, so please bear over with me.
I started up the device and everything was working fine. Had a few issues, so decided to upgrade the firmware, so I downloaded the OpenWRT 19.07.2 firmware for the Atheros AR9330 rev 1. I upgraded from 18.06.2.
The upgrade itself went fine, but it would not recognise the WWAN interface, so I had no connection to the GSM network. I tried to create a new interface. This is where the real problem started. I lost connection to the device.
When I try to boot up the device now, the orange light is flashing. It keeps doing that eternaly. I have tried to connect a RS232 cable to the device and do a PUTTY on the COM port at speed 115200. When the device turns on I get the following:
^SYSLOADING
^SYSSTART
Nothing happens after this. So what do I do now? Can I factory reset the device? I should probably downgrade to its original firmware as well. Any ideas would be happily appreciated.
Thank you in advance
Hello,
There are in fact 2 processors on the terminal: one is ELS61 module and the other one is controlled by OpenWrt system. It uses ELS61 module as a modem.
OpenWrt image installed in the factory is customized. So if you have installed the standard version you have lost all the Gemalto/Thales features which means the whole product functionality.
When you connect to RS232 interface you connect to ELS61 module directly and you see the ^SYSLOADING and ^SYSSTART URC's which is correct. You have changed OpenWrt system but the module stayed unchanged.
There is a procesure for OpenWrt installation in case the terminal is not accessible - I hope it will also work in your case. I can send you the description.
Best regards,
Bartłomiej
If you can send me something on that, it would be very nice.
Will I be able to restore it then?
I've just sent you an email.
Best regards,
Bartłomiej
Cant really figure out how to do this. Do I need some special equipment for this PIN3 (RST_IN)?
Do I connect a 9v battery to it or what do I do?
Hello,
This is a special procedure to be used in case you don't have access to your terminal and can't trigger the firmware update with software.
You need to connect power (from the same source that you connect to PLUS pins) to RST_IN pin while powering up the terminal and disconnect after a while - you can use a simple switch for a convenience. For instance you inset the plug with RST_IN connected and then disconnect RST_IN after the defined time.

Bartłomiej
So I need some special tool for this? Otherwise, how do I connect power to pin3, with the normal PSU I have?
We don't distribute any special tool for this case unfortunatley. There's a connection schematic in the document I sent you. You can either modify one of your PSU's or for example cut a telephone cable with RJ11 plug and connect some other power supply or battery (for instance 9-24V - absolute maximum for RST_IN is 30V) according to the connection schematic in the document.

Bartłomiej
Hi again.
I have nowe successfully applied the firmware to the device. But I do not have the WWAN interface? So I am not able to read the SIM card. Any ideas?
Had an old backup from when it was working. Seems to be working now. Thanks a lot
