Help setting up data call with PLS9 module | Telit Cinterion IoT Developer Community

Hi ,
I have a PLS9 module and are trying to estabish a data call over wwan. I have an Ubuntu 16.04 system.
After I plugin the modem, I setup a new broadband connection via network manager where I specify the APN.
Then I enable the Broadband, the call goes through and I can see the bearer setup. But ifconfig shows the connection as a ppp, how can I setup a wwan connection. Do I need to do this manually using MBIM cli ?
Thanks
Girish
Hello,
Do you see wwan interface in the system?
I'm not a Linux expert but from the module's perspective to start wwan you need to configure APN with AT+CGDCONT command and activate wwan with AT^SWWAN command. Please see also these links:

Thanks. The modemmanager on my Ubuntu distro was old , once I updated it I was able to setup a WWAN call and send data .
Thanks for the documents. Do you have something for Windows ? I have installed the drivers so when the modem is plugged in I see the network interfaces show up(for each PDP), I also see the serial ports.
I have tried using connection manager to setup a call (I get an initial pop up about some Sim error), but If I click ok on it and setup a call (with my APN), the call succeeds, but I can't ping out (once I disable the other n/w interfaces).
Thanks in Advance.
Hello,
Is MBIM activated on the module? Have you tried to use the connection added by MBIM? And how about ******* a dial-up connection in Windows? Or activating WWAN with AT^SWWAN command?
Regards,
Bartłomiej
I am trying to setup a WWAN connection , to restate I got this working on Ubuntu (so the SIM/Modem) are ok.
1. AT^SWWAN command (I activate the same CID that works on Ubuntu)
2. I used connection-manager (a Gemalto provided program) to select CDC-ECM (first PDP). The connection goes through (like I mentioned before I see a pop-up about some GetSim property fail), but the call goes through.
I can see that the ethernet connection says no internet access.(so can't ping out). I get an IP address (confirmed by AT+CGPADDR.), but can't seem to get out to internet.
Does Win10 need MBIM to setup a wwan call ?
I can't seem to use MBIM. This command
AT^SSRVSET="actSrvSet",4
fails. So I assumed that the PLS9-X board I have doesn't support MBIM.
Hello,
MBIM is not necessary. Could you please paste ATI1 reply to verify the exact module and firmware version? And also connection manager version.

Hello,
I have tested PLAS9 module.
When the module is connected and the drivers installd there should be a modem available under Modems and 2 Wireless Ethernet Adapters available under Network Adapters in Device Manager.
I was able to create and activate a standard dialup connection (using the modem) and I had a working connection (passing for example *99***1# or *99***2# as a number and configuring the APN with AT+CGDCONT command under CID 1 or 2).
I was also able to activate a wwan connection with AT^SWWAN=1,1 for CID 1 or AT^SWWAN=1,2 for CID 2. Then there was also a working connection in Windows.
Under Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections I can see Cellular and Cellular 2 connections which are using the 2 Gemalto Wireless Ethernet Adapters. After activating wwan with the command one of these connections was in a connected state.
When I click on the network icon on the Windows taskbar I can see 2 cellular connections which can be activated (one at a time in my case) but after that there is indeed no internet access - seems that Windows does not really activate it even though one of the cellular connections under Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections also shows the connected state.
I also tried the Connection Manager 1.5.0 - in my case it also gave me a working internet connection (I also got GetPinStatusReq failed error after device selection).
Please try if the other options work for you.

Bartłomiej
Thanks for your response.
I was able to get an internet connection by using the dial up method. (We're trying to run bit-rate testing so a wwan interface is preferred)
But not using connection manager, ipconfig shows me that the ethernet connection has an IP address (I disabled IPV6 for that adaptor), but no internet access.
I suspect I am missing something in the windows side.
Just to close the loop on this. I updated the USB drivers for the PLS 9 module, I was on 2.0.8.42 , after upgrading to 2.1.3.3 things started working (I didn't need to use connectionmanager).
Thank you very much for this information.
