PLS8-X how to connect 3G network | Thales IoT Developer Community
June 8, 2017 - 5:45am, 3932 views
HI,
I have used PLS8-X to connect 3G network with udhcpc -i usb0 -A 1 to get the network interface. However, I cannot get IP even the home network is registered. I have used PLS8-E to conenct 4G with AT^SWWANN=1,1 and udhcpc -i usb0 -A 1, I can get the IP successfully. So for 3G network, how to get IP for netwrok interface when PLS8-X is connected 3G network? What AT command I should use?
Thanks.
regards,
Alice
Hello,
Have you tried to send AT+CEER command to check any error reports? Are you sure that the proper APN is configured?
Are you sure that the contexts isn't already activated by other commands - for example AT+CGACT. Then it cannot be reused for WWAN, except in LTE **** where the PDP context activated for LTE attach can also be used to start a WWAN connection.
Regards,
Bartłomiej
Hi Bartłomiej,
I do not called AT+CGACT. What I need to do in order to get IP by udhcpc ? Any at command I need to set?
I have used AT+CEER and it is shown "+CEER: Requested service option not subscribed" if I used at^swwan=1,1. I have a few PLS8-X and found some cannot read sim card, some can get IP and some cannot get IP. It is so confusing.
Thanks.
Regards,
Alice
Hello,
Please paste the log that shows the problem.
This CEER information looks like the SIM would not have subscription for the service. Have you tested all modules with the same SIM card and APN? What is AT+CGACT? reply?
Please check the SCFG "SIM/CS" setting if the SIM is not read. What is AT+CPIN? reply? - please set AT+CMEE=2 before.
Regards,
Bartłomiej
Hi Bartłomiej,
Below is the log and the PLS8--X can get home network but I cannot activate the PDP context. Please advise. Thanks,

Hello,
Please list the defined contexts with AT+CGDCONT? and make sure that you are using the correct one - there may be some restrictions in your network. Please also try other contexts.

Bartłomiej
Hi Bartłomiej,
I have set the APN and it works now. But I do not need to set APN in PLS-E and it can automatically connect. What is the reason?
Moreove, I have a sim card and the PLS8-X showed +CME ERROR: SIM failure when at+cpin? is used. That sim card can be read by Iphone or android mobile. What cause this to happen?
Please advise. Thanks.
Regards,
Alice
Hello,
The reason might depend on the network. As you have been using PLS8-E in 4G and have used the context 1 for the connection it already had to be configured automatically by the network because without it the module would not connect to 4G network.
As for the SIM failure problem please also check with other module - PLS8-E if it works. Is this PLS8-X module able to work with other SIM cards? It might happen that the card is damaged or there is some incompatibility. Do you have more PLS8-X modules to verify? Do you have other SIMs from that provider? What is the provider name?
Regards,
Bartłomiej
Hi Bartłomiej,
It seems hardware issue. BTW, is there any apn list for provider?
Thanks.
Regards,
Alice
You need to get the APN from the provider. The module does not have any list of APNs.
The APN might be automatically assigned by the provider but it depends on the network.

Bartłomiej
