Does ELS61-E R2 support sending SMS (SG/IMS) and ATD (voice call) on LTE only networks? | Telit Cinterion IoT Developer Community

Hi,
I've been using AT+CMGS to send SMS and ATD to make voice call (no voice) and then send DMTF signals on my ELS61-E R2 terminal.
However, my country mobile operators are now phasing out 3G and 2G, so I wanted to test both commands on LTE only network. Sending SMS over LTE appears to work when I switched to LTE only network, but ATD doesn't.
Can ATD voice call work on LTE only networks? If the ELS61-E R2 doesn't support it, is there a module from thales that can support this? Thank you for any guidance.
EDIT1: SMS can be sent over SG or IMS on LTE. Can ELS61-E R2 support SMS over SG and IMS? I suppose that SMS over SG works the same as SMS over 3G and 2G. How about SMS over IMS? Is there special configuration required?
To force the module to only connect to LTE, I used the following command:
AT+COPS=0,0,,7
OK
To confirm that it will connect only to LTE:
AT^SXRAT?
^SXRAT: 3,3
OK
To dial:
ATD*****x; -> ***** is placed with mobile number
OK
NO CARRIER
ATD fails and the error is NO CARRIER.
If I were to reset the module to connect to UTMS using AT+COPS=0,0,,2, ATD would work.
Here's some AT info:

Hi,
ELS62 supports VoLTE(Voice over LTE).
please check the connection values of your carrier.
PDP 1 the data connection
PDP 8 the IMS connection for the VoLTE
check if was configured with at+cgdcont?
Regards
Antonio
Somewhere over the rainbow!!! Looking for the Oz Land!!!
Hi Antonio, thanks for replying. I'm using ELS61-E-R2, not ELS62.
at+cgdcont? returns:
at+cgdcont?
+CGDCONT: 1,"IPV4V6","*****.MNC003.MCC525.GPRS","",0,0
By any chance, do you also know anything about the SMS over IMS vs SG/NAS?
Many countries are phasing out 3G and 2G and if both are removed and SMS over SG/NAS is not supported, all the terminals using non IMS modules will not work for voice/sms.
Hello!
Unfortunately ELS61-E doesn't support both VoLTE and SMS over IMS.
ELS61-E doesn't support the IMS at all.
The ELS61-US does support IMS as it's due to Verizon requirements but it's probably now viable as it operates on different bands.
Best regards,
Lukasz
Hi Lukasz, thanks for getting back. This will be a problem if telcos shutdown their SMS over SG feature in the future in favor of SMS over IMS and there is no 3G or 2G service. Will there be a firmware update to support ELS61-E or can it be done by creating a custom client or Java code?
Hello!
ELS61 is already in EOL status.
We are currently in the process of polishing up the bugs but no major features like IMS support for ELS61-E will be added.
Java code is essentially using modules resources via Java core so if module doesn't support IMS, the Java won't support it either.
Best regards,
Lukasz
Hi Lukasz, thanks for clarifying. Is there a terminal device from gemalto that supports VoLTE ATD/IMS? From my understanding, PLS62T also doesn't support and is also EOL.
Hello,
With PLS62T it is similar. It's based on the chipset from the same vendor.
We have also PLS83 module which supports VoLTE. And there is a terminal SGL81 based on this module.
